北九州 銀天街発祥の地 小倉魚町 The birthplace of the arcade in Japan

北九州市、特に小倉には全国初が沢山あります。そのうちの一つがアーケードであり、その愛称「銀天街」です。

There are many first in Japan in Kitakyushu,especially in Kokura.

One of it is arcade and “Gintengai” , nickname of arcade.

全国初のアーケードが小倉でのある事は、結構知られていますが、「銀天街」の名称まで全国初というのは、意外と知られていませんね。

Kokura is famous for the first of arcade in Japan, but many people don’t know “Gintengai” is first in Japan.

全国初のアーケードが出来るに当たって、名称募集したところ、選ばれたのが、この「銀天街」。銀の天井が輝く街という意味ですね。

When the arcade was built, the nickname of arcade was collected, then “Gintengai” was chosen. In Japanese, “Gin” means silver, “ten” means roof, “gai” means town, so “Gintengai” means the town has silver roof.
