初詣 “Hatsumoude”

本日、初詣に行って来ました。場所は毎年恒例の八坂神社(北九州市小倉北区)。さすがに1月3日ともなれば、そんなに混雑していないので、あまり並ばずに御参り出来ました。

We went to shrine for “Hatsumoude” today.It means to worship at a shrine or temple on New Years days.We went to “Yasaka Jinja” Shinto shrine(Kokurakita,Kitakyushu).Today is 3rd Jan.So there aren’t many people and We didn’t have to stand in line long time.

そしてお札を頂きます。巫女さんも正月早々ご苦労様です。アルバイトの学生さんでしょうかね。

We bought “Ofuda” means a good luck charm it’s issued by Shinto shrine.”Miko-san”means a shrine maiden,are working during New Year days.Maybe they are college students and this is part time job.

ところで初詣はいつ頃から始まったのか？興味が出たので調べてみた。

I’m interested in that when did Japanese people begin “Hatsumoude”.So I checked it.

なるほど！今のような形になったのは明治中期以降なんだ！意外と新しい！とはいえ、今から130年程前なので、新しいという程でもないか（笑）

I see.The present style “Hatsumoude” is from middle of Meiji era.It isn’t old.But it is about 130 years,so it’s not new.

それよりも、知らなかったのが、初詣は神社でも寺院でも良いという事！初詣＝神社と思っていたので、正月早々驚きました！というか自分の無知に笑いが出ましたf^_^;

More than that we can go to shrine and temple for “Hatsumoude”.I thought we have to go to Shinto shrine for “Hatsumoude” I was so surprised it. And I laughed at my ignorance.

初詣で知らなかったといえば、三社参りは九州、とりわけ福岡の風習だということを数年前に知った事！常識に思っている事は、脆くも崩れ去ります！これは年末にも、コンサルタントの渋谷健さんからご教示頂いたな〜

Also I understood that “Sansya-mairi” isn’t common tradition in every place in Japan.”Sansya-mairi” is going to 3 shrines for “Hatsumoude”.”Sansya-mairi” is tradition in Kyushu island,especially Fukuoka. I was teached about common sense is not common sense by Mr.Shibuya last month.

ついでに正月に関する新しく知った事実！それは「しめ縄」に関して。Facebookで投稿したら、「それは北九州オリジナル⁇」みたいなコメントを頂き、早速調べてみたら、なななんと！私がいつも見ているしめ縄はとってもマイナー⁉︎という事を半世紀生きてきて、ようやく知る事になりました…。改めて常識は疑ってみるべしですねf^_^;

One more thing, I understood about Japanese New Year day’s tradition. It’s “Shimenawa”.”Shimenawa” is one of a good luck charm for New Year days. The style of “Shimenawa” is different between Kitakyushu and others. Common sense is not common sense.
